Daphine Henderson, Bass, Piano, Voice, all strings
Daphine Henderson, a double bassist and vocalist in the DC metro area, completed her Master's Degree in Double Bass Performance at the University of Maryland College Park in Spring ‘23, where she also received two Bachelor's Degrees in Music Performance with concentrations in Double Bass and Soprano Voice in Spring '20. Teaching herself the double bass at age 12, Daphine became extremely involved in music throughout her high school and college careers.
Daphine has been an active strings, voice, and piano teacher since 2018, gaining more experience during her graduate studies in instrumental and vocal pedagogy.
As an educator, advocate, and musician, Daphine strives to create a safe, inspiring, and welcoming environment for students to learn, mature, and thrive as both individuals and musicians. In addition to creating a safe space for students in the studio, Daphine works to incorporate a culture that provides a student-centered education. To provide these pillars, Daphine encourages student leadership, organizes master classes and seminars, and challenges her students to step out of their comfort zone in order to better themselves, both musically and non-musically.
Daphine is taking steps in her musical career to create an impact and inspire younger musicians of color that would otherwise not have ample resources and opportunities to pursue their passion. After recently completing her fellowship with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra this past '23-'24 season, Daphine plans to continue establishing herself as an advocate through her performance and as an arts administrator for underserved and minority musicians, while continuing to inspire others through her love for music. She is currently attending Le Moyne College, pursuing a graduate certificate in orchestral management to help further foster her dream of creating a safe and healthy orchestral space for musicians of color.
